Carleton Place sits on the Mississippi River in Lanark County, about 45 minutes from downtown Ottawa along Highway 7. Its downtown is known for tree-lined streets, heritage buildings made of local limestone and a lively food scene, and the Riverwalk and paddling culture are a big part of life here.

The surrounding Township of Beckwith offers a quieter, more rural pace, with larger lots, Mississippi Lake shoreline and communities like Franktown, Black’s Corners and Ashton. It’s one of the area’s fastest-growing townships, with its population up 18% between 2016 and 2021.
